It has a remarkable music scene that's known around the world and is rightfully referred to as one of the music capitals of the world, and it's not hard to see why. From country music to rock and roll, Nashville has a musical legacy that spans generations. And if you're a fan of the walking beacon of superstardom, Taylor Swift, then this place is bound to hold a special place in your heart, as it's the city where Swift’s musical journey began. Taylor Swift Nashville connection is the foundation of her illustrious career, as the city played a crucial role in shaping her early years in the music industry.
In Nashville, Taylor Swift's influence can be seen and felt everywhere. From the city's many music venues to its numerous record stores, Nashville is a goldmine for Taylor Swift fans. In fact, many of these locations are where Taylor honed her craft, learned about the music industry, and met people who would help shape her career. And for those who are interested in delving deeper into the life and career of this iconic artist, the city offers a wealth of opportunities.
The Bluebird Cafe is just one example of many places in Nashville that hold a pivotal place in Swift’s story. A legendary venue in Nashville's music scene, it's a small, intimate cafe with a capacity of only 90 people. It's considered one of the world’s most preeminent listening rooms which have gained recognition as a “songwriter’s venue” that has hosted countless songwriters and musicians, including Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Taylor Swift, and many more at their career-defining moments. It was a 14-year-old Swift who performed at the Bluebird in 2004 for the first time in her life. Her raw talent and songwriting skills impressed the audience and landed her a record deal with Scott Borchetta, who eventually signed her on to his not-yet-created label, Big Machine Records, with whom Taylor would go on to release six albums and multiple chart-topping hits. The Bluebird is also known by seasoned swifties as the place where Swift belted out an iconic performance of her song, “Better Man”, in 2018.
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is one of the most important institutions in Nashville, and it's also a significant location for any fan of Swift’s. The Museum has recognized Taylor’s astronomical musical career with a new pop-up exhibit, “Through Taylor Swift’s Eras”. According to the Museum, the exhibit is a collection of ten outfits representing each era of the artist’s career which aims to highlight iconic looks from Swift’s fashion folklore.
In October 2013 the Taylor Swift Education Center officially opened at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Home to the museum’s award-winning educational programs, the Center offers a fun space for unique hands-on experiences connected to the museum’s content. With limited tickets for the pop-up exhibition available, this spot should be high on any visiting Swiftie’s list of places to check out. It also has held many concerts in Nashville, throughout the years.
Bridgestone Arena has been the site of many of Taylor Swift's most memorable live performances. The arena is located in downtown Nashville, and ranks in the top five U.S. arenas, with a capacity of over 20,000 people for center-stage musical concerts. Taylor has performed at Bridgestone Arena many times, from the Fearless Tour in 2009 to the 1989 World Tour in 2015. In fact, it was at Bridgestone when Taylor sang “I Don't Want to Miss a Thing” with Steven Tyler. What a moment! She has also been the recipient of several awards in this arena, including at the CMA Awards, where she is one of only two women to have won the “Entertainer of the Year Award” twice. It was recorded that thousands of Nashville Taylor Swift tickets were sold when she performed.
The Ryman Auditorium on Broadway is another iconic Nashville landmark and one that's closely connected to Taylor Swift's career. Home of the Grand Ole Opry, The Ryman, originally called the Union Gospel Tabernacle, has been a center for music and entertainment since its construction in 1892. Since then, it's hosted performers like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and of course, Taylor Swift. Taylor has since performed at The Ryman multiple times and has also been honored as NSAI "Artist-Songwriter of the Decade" in the auditorium. If you've never been to this wonder of a place, it's worth the sight for just a walk through the lobby and a coffee, ice cream, or cocktail.
Bonus fact: The auditorium is within walking distance of the Taylor Swift Education Center, which can tick two great landmarks off of your tour list in one day. So be sure you don't miss out on this grand attraction of the city!
The Belle Meade Plantation is another spot to add to your list if you're just about to visit the Tennessean music cradle, as the historic site is dedicated to the preservation of the state's history, architecture, hospitality, and equestrian legacy, where guests can enjoy wine tastings and guided tours, among many more perks. And for fans of the pop powerhouse, it's a double treat; Taylor happens to love the historical aspect of Nashville and BMP was one of the first places she went to when she moved to the city. She has also mentioned in interviews that the plantation, along with Percy Warner Park, also in Belle Meade, are her favorite places to take a walk.
Of course, this list would be incomplete without mention of the simply iconic Centennial Park. One of Nashville's premier parks is located on West End and 25th Avenue North. The 132-acre features: the iconic Parthenon, a one-mile walking trail, Lake Watauga, the Centennial Art Center, historical monuments, an arts activity center, a beautiful sunken garden, a band shell, an events shelter, sand volleyball courts, a dog park, and an exercise trail. Thousands of people visit the park each year to visit the museum, see exhibits, attend festivals, and just enjoy the beauty of the park. All the ethereal beauty of this park led to it getting a nod in Swift’s dreamy love ballad, “Invisible String”, so be prepared to find more than a few Swifties hanging around this iconic location. Especially after the Mayor of Nashville dedicated a bench in Centennial Park to Taylor herself on account of her record-breaking “Eras Tour”.
One of the most famous places to snap a picture in the city is a mural in The Gulch neighborhood - a pair of intricate white lace wings against a black wall. After Taylor posted a picture posing with renowned street artist Kelsey Montague's wings in Nolita, New York, Kelsey's work has been recognized globally and Nashville's wall got similar recognition, causing lines of tourists and locals alike to loop around the Gulch district in search for a picture with the renown wings. Do take some time out from your tour schedule to snap a few shots at this Instagram-worthy location!
For the shopaholics, there are quite a few shops and boutiques that Taylor has frequented over the years. Gilchrist and Gilchrist, for example, is one of her personal favorites when it comes to furniture. She bought a lot of “cute decorations and furniture” for her apartment at the family-owned shop in Berry Hill, and even recommended it to the “girls who like shabby chic”. Anthropologie and H.Audrey are also places Taylor has mentioned she likes in the Hill Center area, so be sure to drop by and drop cash on some Swift-oriented outfits for when you finally get those concert tickets. Just across the street is Pied Piper, an ice cream place with a personal recommendation from Swift herself. And it's perfect to cap off a successful shopping trip!
